Glass
High Quality Materials for High Quality Glass
Through advanced processing to remove impurities and control particle size distribution, we help manufacturers achieve consistent glass batches, uniform melts and reliable production across numerous glass applications. Covia helps manufacturers maintain control across critical production parameters by delivering in-spec silica sand for glassmaking backed by processing expertise and a reliable supply network.
Silica sand is essential to optimal glass production.
The higher the purity of the sand, the more control you have over the strength, clarity, and color of the final product. Covia offers a complete portfolio of low and ultra low iron silica sand, including crystalline silica, silica flour as well as feldspathic sand, nepheline syenite and kaolin.

Product Portfolio
GLASSIL high-purity glass sand is produced from whole-grain crystalline silica sand. Consistent size distribution through accurate classification of coarse and fine grains offers glass manufacturers a uniform melt, reduced incidence of foaming and formation of scum, and optimized mixing integration with all batch components.
GLASSIL FS Feldspathic silica is engineered to support efficient melting and consistent batch performance in glass manufacturing. With controlled chemistry and a balanced contribution of silica and alumina, it helps optimize melt behavior while supporting strength and durability in the final glass.
GLASSIL Li low-iron glass sand is produced from an extremely high-purity crystalline silica sand. Unique deposit chemistry is further enhanced by wet processing and chemical flotation to offer glass manufacturers a highly refined source of silicon dioxide.
DST® Dust-Suppression Technology enhances worker safety by significantly reducing potential exposure to fine ground silica dust. Roofing, glass, construction materials and building products companies are choosing this breakthrough technology as part of their engineering control plan to significantly reduce potential exposure to silica dust. GLASSIL treated with DST brings you all the features of the high purity industrial quartz sand with the added benefit of reduced silica dust exposure.
All PURESIL grades are processed with rigid adherence to Covia QIPSM quality assurance programs to produce a chemically pure silicon dioxide source with a stable alkali constituent and only trace accessory minerals. PURESIL chemistry and consistency make it ideally suited for the processing and manufacture of decorative and table glass, fused and calcined silica, specialty glasswares and sodium silicates. For applications requiring tighter control than standard low-iron glass sand, PURESIL provides an ultra-low-iron solution that delivers high clarity and consistent optical performance.
In addition to its operating advantages, MATRIX will stabilize and strengthen container and flat glass and produce clearer glass without additives or decolorizers in applications where color control is critical. All MATRIX is produced with consistently uniform chemistries, size distributions, and top size controls for optimal performance in the glass furnace. For manufacturers seeking to improve furnace efficiency and batch performance, MATRIX provides a feldspathic solution that enhances melt behavior and glass properties.
FG kaolin also plays a critical role in managing redox conditions within the glass batch. By delivering consistent carbon levels, it helps glass chemists control sulfur-to-carbon ratios and chemical oxygen demand (COD), supporting proper fining, foam control and overall melt stability.
SILEX glass grade ground silica is produced from high-purity industrial quartz feedstock. Consistently uniform chemistries, minimal levels of iron and other refractive elements and statistical control of particle size distribution make SILEX ideally suited for the manufacture of specialty glass fibers and continuous filament production.
