MINEX functional filler in powder and coarse grain made from nepheline syenite

MINEX is made of nepheline syenite, a mineral consisting of nepheline and feldspar. Because nepheline only occurs in rocks that are deficient in silica, nepheline syenite products are virtually silica-free. Covia’s nepheline syenite is responsibly mined from high-purity ore reserves in Blue Mt., Ontario, Canada. In functional fillers, nepheline’s hardness confers excellent resistance to abrasion, fading, cracking and aging associated with environmental and chemical exposures. The mineral’s angular particle shape and low surface area give nepheline syenite coatings easy dispersibility.

Multiple grades of MINEX are available to provide improved optics and performance for a variety of applications:

Coarser grades offer cost-effective gloss and sheen control, as well as added texture.

Finer grades are recommended for higher gloss systems and are the preferred choice for powder coatings and clear systems.

Specifically, MINEX is an ideal functional filler for the following applications:

Automotive rubbing, cleaning and detailing compounds

MINEX is silica-free and a safer replacement for other abrasives. Multiple grades of MINEX offer a wide range of particle size distributions to provide a spectrum of abrasiveness, from aggressive to buffing and polishing action.

Industrial coatings

MINEX’s enhanced resistance to UV, fading, corrosion, and weathering makes it an ideal low silica filler and extender for industrial floor and exterior deck coatings, as well as roof coatings. In addition, MINEX can be used to enhance the properties of low-VOC paints and coatings.
